« Helpful add-ins for Visual Studio | Main | It is the trivia that gets you »

The ADO Guy expresses his frustration that the ObjectDataSource doesn't work with typed DataSets in ADO.NET 2.0. In an earlier post I expressed my frustration about using it with business objects.

In the case of CSLA .NET 2.0 I'm writing my own CslaDataSource that understands how to work nicely with CSLA .NET business objects. In conferring with the ASP.NET team it seems like this is the best option. It turns out that writing a DataSource control isn't overly difficult - it is writing the designer support (for VS 2005) that is the hard part...

Rocky, the the first link to "ADO guys frustrations" is incorrect, it links to the Visual Studio AddIns article. Thanks for the interesting posts!

Hi Rocky,

If you're looking for a good resource to help you on creating a DataSource control, check out Nikhil Kothari's blog. He has a 5 part post that steps you through the process of creating a DataSource control. Here's the url: http://www.nikhilk.net/DataSourceControlsSummary.aspx

Hope this help you out!

Hi Rocky, that sounds really good, do you have an idea by when are you going to be able to release this new CslaDataSource to your fans :) ? Actually, are you planning to release any alpha/beta version of CSLA 2.0?

In the particular case of the CslaDataSource, I think will be very helpful to expose it to the community for feedback, I feel responsible as well by not submitting any feedback to Microsoft directly about the ObjectDataSource, I posted some questions in your discussion forum about the problem during the beta's, now it's too late, it reach the market and unfortunally we got something that really doesn't make the binding any easier than it was (maybe more complicated now :().

This time, if those are your plans, I will wait anxiously for any alpha/beta that you might release and definitely will commit enough time to understand it and give you any feedback, I'm sure a lot of people around will be very interesting on doing that as well.

Thanks
Mr.Underhill
