Expert C# 2008 Business Objects book coverYou can now purchase the "alpha" of Expert C# 2008 Business Objects online as an ebook directly from the Apress web site. This gets you early access to the content, and access to the final ebook content when it is complete.

While their website indicates you can provide feedback during the writing process, the reality with this book is that I'm only three chapters from being completely done with the final review, so it is terribly close to being final already :)

This is great news. Thanks Rocky!

When can we expect the VB version of the book?

How much does it differ from the 2005 book of the same name? I was just about to finally get around to start reading that one when I noticed this one was coming out. I definitely can wait a month if this new book is "better"?

The VB edition is in progress. The big issue with the VB book is the VB framework. I suspect that people would be disappointed to buy the book and not find a VB codebase, so the book may have to wait until the volunteers have converted the code to VB. Otherwise I expect it in (probably) February.

The 2008 book is quite different from the 2005 book. For example, in 2005 the book was 12 chapters, and it is now 21. It was 750 pages, and is now (I think) closer to 900. It covered Windows Forms and now covers WPF. It covered CSLA .NET 2.0, and the new one covers 3.6.

However, the 2008 book is similar to the 2005 one, in that over half the book is about the architecture, design and creation of the framework itself. This is a book on framework design more than a tutorial on just using the framework. Though, like the 2005 book, this new book does include a detailed walkthrough of the ProjectTracker app. Chapters 1, 3-5 and 17-21 are all about OO design and using CSLA .NET to build an OO application.

Love it!

I'll wait for the release of the 2008 book and purchase that one.

That's enough for me. I love the nuts and bolts stuff, Rocky. Guarantees my purchase! I haven't used your framework since the first version. But I used that one A LOT. I'm looking forward to your take on WPF, too.

Thanks and keep it up!

Thanks for releasing an alpha version, Rocky. I've been struggling a bit with the move over to CSLA 3.5, LINQ, context managers, child data portal stuff, etc. I bought the book this morning and I'm well on the way.

(PS: I hope the final version is available as a single PDF. Text searches are a bit inconvenient with 21 separate files, not to mention having to enter the ebook password for each chapter!)
